The relationship between police forces and the communities they serve and protect is a major flashpoint at the moment. But if we could wave a magic wand to solve just one problem, this would be it. Improving the trust and communication between police and local communities, in all their diversity, is the key to keeping us all safe from social, ethnic and religious violence.
With Lokahi, Gwen has more than a decade of experience in doing specific commissioned studies, creating projects and programs to transform their relationships with minority communities, and improving their own internal culture.
Lokahi’s most widespread program brought together police and Muslim communities, along with other stakeholders, for weekends away using Lokahi’s own special method. This turned around mutual mistrust and grievance in two days or less. This program even prevented a suicide bombing going forward in Bristol.
Lokahi has done focused studies for British police units on supporting local ‘de-radicalization’ programs run by Muslim experts, dealing with delicate ethical issues and also improving performance.
